Since May 1999 I am affiliated to Wageningen University as Senior Professor of Meteorology, and as chair of the Meteorology and Air Quality Section
Please send an email if you are interested to interact with me. For my education activities please consult http://www.maq.wur.nl/UK/Education/Courses/.
Overall, I have a broad interest in Meteorology and as such I have advised many PhD and MSc students on a variety of subjects. My particular interest is advancing the knowledge of the atmospheric boundary layer, the further understanding of the complex atmosphere-land interactions and application of these insights to weather, climate, wind energy, urbanization and dispersion of trace gases and pollutants. To advance the modeling of atmospheric boundary layers, I am chairing the Atmospheric boundary layer Study (GABLS) of the Global Energy and Water Cycle Experiment (GEWEX).
Before my current job at Wageningen University, I was working (as a part time professor of Meteorology) at the Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research at Utrecht University (IMAU) from 1993 until 1999, and at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) in De Bilt from 1977 until 1999 in various research positions. In addition I made frequent visits and sabbaticals to other research groups, in particular the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, CO, USA.

In 1987 I defended my PhD at Wageningen University on a Ph.D thesis called Surface fluxes and boundary layer scaling; Models and applications (Advisors Prof. L. Wartena and Dr. H.A.R. de Bruin). This thesis was prepared on basis of research at KNMI.
